Castlecraig. The start of your big adventure
There are plenty amenities of small local shops, big super markets, Restaurants, Cafes and Takeaways all within a 15–20-minute drive from the farm.
Local Walks
On the farm is a core path system offering an ideal walking route through the farm to the World War I and II gun emplacements that are situated along the cliff tops. The Easter Ross peninsula is rich in terms of historical artefacts with Nigg Old Church at the bottom of the farm road, an ideal starting point to take the Pictish Trail along the coast through the Seaboard villages and on to Portmahomack followed by Tain, Scotland’s oldest burgh. There are spectacular beaches at all of these places, as well as Nigg beach which is accessible on foot for those who don’t mind a steep uphill return or only a three-minute drive by car.
Cromarty Village
The village of Cromarty is less than a mile away. Although it is the nearest village to the farm, it is separated by the Cromarty Firth, served by a car ferry throughout the tourist season. With museums, galleries, pubs, restaurants and cafes as well as lots of lovely architecture, a trip on the ferry as a foot passenger is highly recommended. Alternatively, you could take the car to go on to explore more of the Black Isle without having to take the long way round!
Mountain Biking
There is a number of fantastic mountain bike and woodland trails within the area. Including the popular Wildcat trails 40 minutes up the coast in Golspie where the spectacular Dunrobin Castle is located. Learnie red rock trails near Fortrose on the Black Isle also offer a great day of mountain biking for all levels.
